Detroit Waldorf School Admissions Process
The goal of the Detroit Waldorf School (DWS) is to provide your child with a successful and fulfilling educational experience. Parent involvement and commitment to the overall development of the child is imperative for optimum achievement. Our mission in educating your child is to awaken and nurture the lifelong process of thinking, feeling and working.
The admissions process begins with an orientation, followed by submission of an application and fee. The next step involves an interview with the parents and an observation of the child to mutually ascertain if the school is a good fit for the child and family. The final step after being notified of acceptance is signing the enrollment contract and arranging a payment schedule.
Enumerated Steps for the Admission Process:
1. Orientation - The first step in the enrollment process is to attend a Talk & Tour to help you familiarize yourself with the Waldorf approach.
2. Initial Application - Download the application or complete it on-line. Then send in the non-refundable $50 (per child) application fee, or pay it on-line (below).
3. Recommendations and Transcripts - For students in grade 2 and above, transcripts are to be sent from their current school.
4. Interview - An interview is held with you and your child's potential teacher, so you can meet the teacher and so the teacher can learn more about your child.
5. Observation - Your child's observation by staff will be either for one or three days.
6. Additional Evaluation - If necessary, an additional evaluation will be scheduled.
7. Notification - You will receive the acceptance status of your child into the Detroit Waldorf School by mail.
8. Reservation of Class Space - The enrollment contract and deposit are due to reserve your child's space.
9. Tuition Rates and Policies - Families who are accepted can apply for tuition adjustments, based on financial need. We believe a Waldorf education should be accessible to those families who value the ideals, curriculum and learning environment. The Sustainable Tuition Program recognizes that every family adds value to the school community. Each family has a unique financial situation; our goal is to determine a tuition rate that is sustainable for the family and the school for the school year in which the student is enrolling.
